By Building the Wheaton/Glenmont
Victory Youth Center, it would alleviate some of the severe shortage of
available recreational facilities in Montgomery County. The Center will
be located at the intersection of Georgia and Randolph Roads and like
other Centers will include basketball courts and meeting rooms.
The Children with Special physical
needs of our community are acutely underserved. There is a plan for this
Center to develop an additional 3,500 square feet of recreational space
dedicated solely to support programs for youth with special needs. Children
throughout the Washington DC Metropolitan area who require special equipment,
attention and services will be able to utilize this unique Center.
This new design will be the
first of its kind anywhere other than a hospital where kids with special
needs can go for recreation and fun. It will have the potential to provide
so much for so many who have so little.
Goals:
- Initiate public/private
partnership to remove blighted/condemned school buildings and build
new multi-purpose youth center.
- New youth center
to house new quarters for current occupants --Montgomery County Conservation
Corp, Wheaton/Kensington Youth Services, Private Daycare Provider.
- New space to be
built for athletic complex with special 3,500 square foot facility to
support programs for youth with special needs (believed to be first
facility of its kind in Montgomery County)
- VYC Glenmont will
provide programs to serve over 10,000 children annually in recreational,
social, and physical programs.
